Coaching Documents

The NPDC coaching manual was developed to support practitioners’ implementation of evidence-based practices in programs that serve children and youth with autism spectrum disorders. The manual describes:

• the roles and responsibilities of coaches and inviting partners;
• three types of coaching;
• the processes involved in coaching;
• elements of effective coaching;
• the integration of coaching within the partnership between states and the NPDC; and,
• provides guidelines for providing content on coaching through professional development.

The coaching log is used by the coach and inviting partner to document the cyclical and evolving process of coaching and it’s outcomes. This one-page document records all of the aspects of the pre-conference observation conference, observation, and post-observation conference. The log is completed by the coach and is maintained by the inviting partner as a confidential record of progress toward coaching targets.

Coaching Presentations

Two Coaching PowerPoint presentations are available for download. The Coaching Full Version presentation is intended to be delivered in about three hours and includes various group activities to engage participants in conversation and reflection on their experience of coaching and being coached.

The Coaching Short Version presentation is meant to be presented in about 1 hour. The information in this presentation is condensed and fewer experiential learning activities are incorporated. Both presentations have relevant content from the Coaching Manual in the “notes” section of most slides. A video is also available to serve as a guide for self-study of the coaching materials. This video contains a narrated version of the coaching presentation. This version is designed to serve as a guide for self-study of the coaching materials.
