  MODULE: Structured Work Systems

Summary

  • Work systems are visually structured sequences that provide opportunities to practice previously taught skills, concepts, or activities (Schopler, 1995).
  • Work systems can be used across settings and for individuals with ASD of any age.
  • Work systems do not only incorporate bins, drawers, and matching. Work systems can include written lists, folders and binders, and many other materials.
  • Work systems are meant to promote independence from adult support. If an individual needs adult support to complete the work system, the work activities may be too hard or the system may need to be adapted, or the individual may need additional teaching.
